David Archuleta and Philippines' Charice Pempengco in a Gay Nightclub?

Is David Archuleta gay? That's the question that's been going around since the American Idol Season 7 runner-up was seen in a gay nightclub in New York recently. After the news sent shockwaves all over the world, David was quick on the uptake and reassured fans and supporters that he's very much straight. He gave a perfectly innocent alibi by explaining that he was at Club 57 (the gay nightclub in question) that night because he was there to support young Filipina international singer Charice Pempengco, who is his friend. Charice was said to be performing at Club 57 that night and David just dropped by to show his support.

Consequently, Charice reportedly gave a stunning performance that wowed the audience as well as those who got to watch it online. Here's a video of Charice performing at the Club 57 PYRAMID Club Remix:

In other news, back in the Philippines, Charice's homeland, she's also the talk of the town -- not for her gay nightclub rendezvous in New York but more on personal issues concerning her estranged father. Relatives of her father are expressing their dismay because Charice reportedly did not extend any financial support when her father fell ill and got hospitalized. There's also the issue of Charice dropping the Pempengco surname in her screen name.

Charice explains that it's actually the decision of the people managing her career, Oprah included, to just use her first name in promoting her internationally. In my opinion, her name really sounds better and easier to pronounce without her chockful surname, which can be a tonguetwister to an international community that's not familiar with foreign-sounding names.

With regards to her not extending financial support to her father, it is really Charice's choice. Her father left them to fend for themselves and live in utter poverty. If not for Charice's exceptional talent and determination to succeed, she and her family would still be grappling in life and taking on odd jobs to survive. Her father chose to leave them when they needed him most. It's only fair to give Charice that choice now that her wheel of fortune has turned. Also, her father shouldn't be expecting much from the family he chose to abandon. It was his choice then to neglect his patriarchal responsibilities. Charice should have the same choice now whether or not she still wants to be a daughter to a father who abandoned her and her loved ones.
