Goodbye Finn Hudson: Glee fans mourn Cory Monteith's death

Rest in peace, Cory Monteith a.k.a. Finn Hudson
He captured many hearts with his boyish cuteness, charming lopsided smile, impressive singing voice and delightful screen presence. And now the same adoring hearts are breaking in a fit of sorrow over his sudden passing.

Gleeks all over the world are in mourning following the shocking death of Glee star Cory Monteith, who was found dead in his Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel room in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday, January 13. Hotel staff found his body after he missed his check-out time. He checked in to the hotel on July 6.

The 31-year-old actor, who plays the lead character of heartthrob jock Finn Hudson in the hit FOX musical comedy series, is one of the show's original cast members since it started in 2009. He is in a real-life relationship with his Glee co-star and leading lady Lea Michele, who plays the strong-willed and ambitious Rachel Berry in the musical show.

Monteith had been open with his battle with alcohol and drug addiction, having been treated for substance abuse when he was 19 years old. In April this year, he voluntary entered drug rehab - a move which was fully supported by his girlfriend. "I am grateful and proud he made this decision," Michele said in a statement she issued at that time.

Police have ruled out foul play although the cause of Monteith's death is still not apparent. Hotel cameras saw him returning to his room alone after he went out with some friends late Friday night. An autopsy of his body will be carried out on Monday.

In a statement after the confirmation of Monteith's death, FOX offered thoughts and prayers to the actor's loved ones and friends. "Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously," the TV network's message read.
