Shangri-La Plaza Celebrates 25th Anniversary with 10th International Silent Film Festival

As part of its month-long celebration of its 25th anniversary this August, Shangri-La Plaza Mall holds a host of exciting activities that include the much-anticipated 10th International Silent Film Festival.

From August 25 to 28, Shangri-La Plaza celebrates the Silent Film Festival's 10th anniversary run with the screening of nine renowned films at the Shang Cineplex. The silent film screenings will be accompanied by top local acts including Ely Buendia, Basti Artadi, Tago Jazz Collective, Oh Flamingo, Dingdong Fiel, Makiling Ensemble, Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas, Felipe A. Latonio Jr., Miguel Angel Lobato, and Up Dharma Down.

The participating countries are also enriching this year's program with lectures and roundtable discussion on Silent Cinema as well as an exhibit that showcases the festival's rich and unique history. The exhibit opens on August 16  at the Shangri-La Plaza Grand Atrium.

The first of its kind in Southeast Asia, the 10th International Silent Film Festival opens on August 25 with the 7:30pm screening of Play On! Silent Shakespeare, a 2016 compilation of Silent Shakespeare shorts from the British Film Institute (BFI) National Archive. Tago Jazz Collective will be doing a live musical score of the film.

Play On! Silent Shakespeare pays homage to the words of William Shakespeare as the world commemorates his 400th death anniversary this year.

Also showing as part of the Silent Film Festival are the Philippines' "Indio Nacional" (August 26, 5:30pm), Italy's "Maciste All'Inferno (August 26, 8:00pm), Spain's "La Revoltosa" (August 27, 3:00pm), Japan's "Muteki" (August 27, 5:30pm), the United States' "For Heaven's Sake" (August 27, 8:00pm), a still undisclosed entry from France (August 28, 3:00pm), Austria's "Der Balletterzherzog" (August 28, 5:30pm), and Germany's "Der Letzte Mann" (August 28, 8:00pm).

Admission to all 10th International Silent Film Festival screenings at the Shangri-La Plaza Cineplex is free on a first-come-first-served basis.
